2016 - Assietta Legend MBT

Pectoral: 847
Length: 73km
Difference in altitude: 3250 m

Departing from Sestriere, a town that certainly needs no introduction, you'll take the trail that descends the Chisone Valley through Sestriere Borgata. In the blink of an eye, you'll reach Pragelato, then ascend the splendid Val Troncea (host of the 2006 Turin Nordic skiing competitions) for about 3.5 km, before descending to Pourrieres (1,418 m) about 22 km from the start, where you'll turn off for Balboutet. Here the climb begins steeply, reaching the hamlet of Balboutet (1,557 m) and then following it to Pian dell'Alpe: the dirt road in excellent condition climbs through pastures and coniferous forests, reaching the beautiful alpine basin of Pian dell'Alpe, at an altitude of 1,821 m. We continue towards Colle delle Finestre, then turn left towards our "Coppi peak", Cima Ciantiplagna (2,750 m). Passing through the Gran Serin fort, we join the Assietta road, which allows us to admire the splendid panorama towards the valley floor, arriving at the last stretch that separates us from Colle dell'Assietta (2,472 m). The panorama is austere, to say the least superb, and after a short stretch of steep climbing we reach the head of Assietta at an altitude of 2,472 m. 2567. From here begins the very fast descent that takes us to Col Lauson (2497 m) and then Col Blegier (2381 m), followed by the short climb that leads to Monte Genevris (2533 m), then the descent to Costa Piana, following Col Bourget (2299 m) and, at the end of the Assietta road, we reach Col Basset (2424 m), where all that remains is to dive towards Sestriere. The fast descent ends after about 2.5 km to turn onto the spectacular Gelindo Bordin trail (2226 m) that overlooks the Sestriere hill, to be followed in its entirety until the locality of Monterotta. The return to the finish line in Sestriere is guaranteed via the historic Grobial trail (Luigi XIV), which the organizers will further improve to enhance the high-altitude single track.
