2016 - Assietta Legend MBT

Pectoral: 847
Length: 73km
Difference in altitude: 3250 m

Departure from Sestriere, a place that certainly needs no introduction, to take the path that descends the Chisone valley through Sestriere Borgata. In the blink of an eye you reach Pragelato, and then you go up the splendid Val Troncea (home of the Turin 2006 Nordic skiing competitions) for about 3.5 km and then descend to Pourrieres (1418 m) after about 22 km from the start, where you need to turn for Balboutet. Here you begin to climb decisively, touching the hamlet of Balboutet (1557 m) and then following them to Pian dell'Alpe: the dirt road in excellent condition climbs up through pastures and coniferous woods reaching the beautiful Alpine basin of Pian dell'Alpe, at an altitude of 1821 m, you continue towards Colle delle Finestre, then turn left towards our "Coppi peak" Cima Ciantiplagna (2750 m) and passing through the Gran Serin fort you enter the Assietta road which allows you to admire the splendid panorama towards the valley floor arriving in the last stretch that separates us from the Assietta hill (2472 m). The panorama is austere, to say the least superb, and after a short stretch of hard climbing you reach the head of the Assietta at an altitude of 2472 m. 2567. From here begins the very fast descent that takes us to Col Lauson (2497 m) and then Col Blegier (2381 m) followed by the short climb that leads to Monte Genevris (2533 m), then the descent to Costa Piana, followed by Col Bourget (2299 m) and, at the end of the Assietta road, we reach Col Basset (2424 m) where all that remains is to dive towards Sestriere. The fast descent is interrupted after about 2.5 km to turn onto the spectacular Gelindo Bordin path (2226 m) that overlooks the Sestriere hill, to be followed in its entirety until the Monterotta locality. The return to the arrival in Sestriere is guaranteed by the historic Grobial path (Luigi XIV) that the organization will further improve to enhance the single track at high altitude.
