2018 - Alta Valtellina Bike Marathon

Pectoral: 1317
Length: 100 km
Difference in altitude: 3260 m

Departure from the Alta Valtellina bike village stadium in Rasin Isolaccia;
Launch section passing through the heart of the town of Isolaccia;
Start of the climb to Pedenosso Alto – S.Antonio total 7 km (5 km on asphalt and then start of dirt road);
At the top of the hill on the white road of Decauville, turn right towards the Fraele towers;
At the Torri di Fraele at 1930 m (one of the most typical features of Valdidentro, on the route of the ancient Via Imperiale) you enter the spectacular valley of the same name;
Passing near the Monte Scale lake, you reach the Cancano dams (two artificial lakes of enormous size that constitute an authentic work of hydroelectric engineering inserted in an environment of particular naturalistic interest; the hydroelectric use of the Fraele valley dates back to 1928).
We skirt the first dam on the left side, cross the dividing wall and pass on the right side of the second dam, over 12 km mainly flat on a wide dirt road;
Once you reach S.Giacomo, keeping to the right, you continue along an easy path towards Val Mora near the Swiss border (we are still on the trail of the ancient Via d'Alemagna, a historic and important commercial link between Valtellina and the nearby countries of northern Europe until 1487). Before crossing the border, you turn and continue towards Prà Grata to return to S.Giacomo.
We skirt the S.Giacomo dam on the right side after about 3 km completely flat, in the Val Pettin area, deviation and entrance to the climb to Alpe Trela 2200 m, 2 km on a dirt road with a compact surface;
At Alpe Trela after a short flat stretch you continue uphill on a path for 2 km up to Passo Trela 2300 m.
Descent on single track 3.5 km, towards Val Pila; once you reach the bottom of the valley, continue on the Val Torta path with continuous ups and downs until you reach Lake Livigno at 1800 m (spectacular artificial lake that marks the border between Italy and Switzerland);
Climb to Passo Alpisella 5 km on a dirt road with a compact surface;
At Passo Alpisella 2350 m, descent towards the S.Giacomo dam; first stretch on a dirt road until the entrance to the spectacular path that passes near the sources of the Adda which leads to the bottom of the S.Giacomo valley;
We skirt the S.Giacomo dam (right side) for 3 km, entirely flat, in the direction of Val Pettin, once again tackling the climb to Alpe Trela for 2 km;
Short flat stretch and then uphill again towards Lago Nero for 1.5 km on a path, to reach the Bocchette di Trelina at 2283 m;
Spectacular descent towards Val Vezzola: first part on a fun single-track and then continue on a dirt road until the entrance to the path that goes towards the Foscagno valley; after a series of technical ups and downs, you descend and return to the flat Decauville road;
Passage through Arnoga, crossing the state road to Livigno in the direction of Val Viola; a valley dominated by the mountains that are part of the Cima Piazzi and Corna di Campo group: in fact, Cima Piazzi, Cima Viola and Cima Dosdé tower over it;
An initial 1km uphill stretch leads to Val Verva;
In the Baite Verva bassa area, on a newly built path, you proceed along 3 km of fun ups and downs;
The route becomes wider and after 1 km you pass through Val Cardonnè to then turn left and when crossing the bridge you climb for 500 m;
Smooth descent for 1 km and deviation to the right for Paluetta (1 km climb);
From Paluetta 1 km on varied terrain and you reach Alpe Boron 2057 m;
Short descent and immediately turn right to tackle a climb of about 1 km, very challenging in some places "muro di Prei";
The hill is reached in Prei, a particularly panoramic place where the view can range over all the surrounding valleys crossed in the first part of the route; through a new fun flat and slightly downhill path you reach Alpe Pone;
Still on a new downhill path, you skirt the alpine ski slopes of Valdidentro until you reach the entrance to the Palancana road, a long flat stretch immersed in thick pine forests among which extraordinary panoramic windows open onto the Bormio area;
Breathtaking descent towards the historical naturalistic area of the Venini military fort and the Paluaccio di Oga reserve;
Taking advantage of the fun trails built for the Oga bike park you “fly” towards Motte, Corva, and with a passage on the winter cross-country ski track and the Isolaccia cycle path you have arrived!

HIGH ALTITUDE EMOTIONS!

A challenge on a high mountain route with its superb views, carefully studied differences in altitude to enhance the beauty and pleasure of cycling at altitude in the Stelvio National Park.
